Launching of the “Save Gerakan, Vote Against Redelineation” campaign in Teluk Intan – Call for Mah Siew Keong to put Gerakan Interest above personal interest to save Gerakan and vote against the redelineation proposal in parliament

Teluk Intan DAP has today launched a “Save Gerakan, Vote Against Redelineation” campaign in Teluk Intan, urging Gerakan President to vote against the redelineation proposal in Parliament and save Gerakan in at least 1 parliament and 2 state seats in Perak.

Based on the redelineation proposal, Sitiawan(renamed to Astaka) state seat will be moved from Lumut Parliament Seat into Beruas parliament seat. Sitiawan is considered a DAP stronghold, which will turn Beruas from a grey Gerakan seat into a black Gerakan seat. On the other hand, UMNO will stake its claim on Lumut from MCA which will now turn into a Malay Majority seat.

We urge Mah to stand up against UMNO bullying politics to defend Gerakan’s interest. Mah must vote against the redelineation proposal in parliament to show Gerakan’s disapproval on this proposed redelineation.

This redelineation also shifted 3,714 votes in Simpang Baru from DUN Changkat Jering to DUN Aulong where 84% of them voted for opposition in the last election. This shifting of votes will help UMNO wrest Changkat Jering at the expense of Gerakan which is contesting the Aulong seat.
Apart from that, 3,329 votes from Jalan Tambun are also transferred from DUN Canning to DUN Hulu Kinta where more than 85% of them voted for BN in the last GE. This will consolidate UMNO’s position in DUN Hulu Kinta by sacrificing Gerakan chances in DUN Canning.

Gerakan stand to lose in at least 1 parliament seat and 2 state seats in Perak if the proposed redelineation is passed in parliament. We urged Mah to do the right thing and vote according to his own conscience to save Gerakan and vote against this proposed redelineation.

If Mah fail to even defend his own party’s interest, how can Malaysians particularly the people of Teluk Intan count on him to defend the people’s and Ansonian’s interest?
