Several online news portal have reported that Malaysians have been blocked accessing the BBC news on the Kangkung fiasco. Despite Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) denial of blocking the BBC Kangkung page, internet users primarily TMnet users are unable to access the BBC Kangkung page.
Najib must publicly address if the directive of blocking the BBC Kangkung page come from him. If not, he must immediately interfere and stop the Kangkung censorship. Internet filtering is a violation of the Multimedia Super Corridor Malaysia Bill of Guarantees which specifically states that the Government would “ensure no internet censorship”. Is Najib prepared to go against the promise of no internet filtering because of his Kangkung faux pas?
The Kangkung fiasco turned from a national joke to an international joke when it was reported by BBC and several international news portal. With the BBC Kangkung page censorship, it would be just a matter of time that the Kangkung would be recognised as the “National Vegetable of Malaysia” which has just gain international fame.
The high handed tactic to suppress freedom of information shows that Najib administration has already lost touch with the ground that are angered with the continuous price hike of several essential goods. Kangkung has now become a symbol of the Najib administration to ridicule, deny and dismiss the rising cost of living in Malaysia.
Is Najib currently living in a different Malaysia that he could see no burden of the people, feel no pain of the people and hear no complaints from the people of the never ending rising cost of living? Why do ordinary Malaysians have to tighten their belt due to BN mismanagement and lavish spending while BN top officers continue their extravaganza overseas trip?
Najib must immediately step in and stop the nonsense of the Kangkung Censorship and address the public concern of the continue rise in cost of living.
